All year round Fishing Vacations
There is great trout fishing year round in New Zealand's outstanding rivers and lakes. Summer river fly fishing October-May is available throughout both islands. In winter, you’ll find the world’s best fresh water rainbow trout runs in the central North Island. Boat fishing is available throughout the year in Rotorua, Taupo and some South Island lakes.
Saltwater Fishing
Zane Grey made the Bay of Islands world famous in 1929 for it’s enormous marlin. The reputation continues today. The Lodges of New Zealand provide access to the best charter boats for deep sea fishing; plus light tackle fishing for fighting kingfish and kahawai.

This iconic New Zealand property was originally founded as a fishing lodge in the 1920s. The size and fighting spirit of Taupo’s famous trout still draws keen anglers to Huka Lodge to this day however the legendary hospitality and top international award rankings are also equally responsible. Guests enjoy boat fishing on Lake Taupo and fly fishing on the many rivers and streams that feed her.
Whare Kea is ideally located near the famous rivers, streams and lakes of Otago and Southland where fishing for either trout or salmon is a favourite past-time. The season runs from October through to May with the best months from October till March. Local guides are necessary and remote locations require the use of the helicopter.
Cape Kidnappers, a stand out beacon of land discovered by Captain James Cook in 1769, set on a 6,000 acre sheep farm on some of the most dramatic coastline found in New Zealand. Cape Kidnappers represents all that is outstanding in the New Zealand Lodge experience stakes.
Helicopter charters can be arranged for you to experience the ultimate in heli-fishing. Head out by helicopter to a remote rock ledge above a deepwater drop off in search of monster Snapper or Kingfish. Our helicopter operators are the pioneers of helifishing and after almost two decades have discovered some great locations and an understanding of what makes fishermen happy.
The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs affords spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Cape Brett and the offshore Cavalli Islands are part of the panorama which can be viewed from the verandas, lounge and restaurant.
Eagles Nest & Sea Fishing. The Bay of Islands provides the angler with the opportunity to catch or target any of the gamefish species which migrate and frequent our coastal waters from December through to June. Black Marlin & Blue Marlin & Striped Marlin & and don't forget our magnificent Broadbill & are all available over our summer months.
Blanket Bay - Heli-fishing... Allow us to plan and arrange helicopter fishing trips, where we can take you to stretches of water possibly not fished this season by any other anglers, where you will stalk wild rainbow and brown trout. Inaccessible to vehicles, and accessed by foot only over great time and difficulty. Helicopter access makes the most of these virtually untouched waters.

The large braided Waiau, Hurunui and Clarence Rivers are home to some of the most challenging and elusive brown trout and sea run salmon in the South Island. Guides are available to give visitors the best advantage of catching their fish, take a jet boat down the Waiau for a scenic fishing trip of a lifetime, or just grab a rod and find a quiet spot to cast in solitude.
Fish the wilderness rivers and streams of Fiordland and Southland for rainbow and brown trout. Fly fishing only, our experienced local guides strongly promote “catch and release”.
Charter a fishing boat or the Hurakia launch to take you to Auckland’s fishing and diving grounds. Let your pilot/guide fly you to an exclusive fishing spot on a highly organized fishing adventure. The trips include: all fishing equipment (rods, reels bait, tackle) and a 30 minute scenic helicopter flight each way.
Set on the banks of the famous Tongariro River and in easy reach of other outstanding trout rivers, lakes and tributaries in the Taupo region, River Birches provides the perfect location for your fly fishing adventure. Access to professional guides is easily arranged and fly fishing gear is available at the lodge if required. If you’d like to fish near River Birches, you can catch world-class trout just 50 metres from the lodge!
Lake Taupo Lodge & Lake and River fishing.. The first trout were liberated into the waters of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake, in 1887. They were the Californian Brown Trout and the Californian Rainbow Trout. There is an excellent chance of catching late and early run rainbows and large browns, and it's quite likely you could have a whole day of fishing without seeing another angler.
There is no other way to describe it. Fifteen fishable lakes, a myriad of streams and three different species of trout to fish for using virtually every conceivable legal method known to anglers.There really is something for everyone, whether it is trophy sized rainbow or brown trout boat fishing on lakes that have large numbers of more "normal" sized fish or stalking fish along lake or stream margins.
