Claremont is the ideal hub from which to explore both Christchurch and Canterbury. It is also one of Canterbury’s notable historic homes and is a high-country station, farming sheep, cattle and deer. The 1866 heritage limestone homestead is located just 45 minutes from Christchurch airport and set on the spectacular Waipara Gorge, within an area designated as being outstanding natural Landscape. It is also close to the renowned Waipara wineries. Featured in Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report, as the Grand Award winner for NZ in 2008, this is a tranquil country house alternative to a Christchurch city stay!
Guests receive a warm welcome from Richard and Rosie, the owner-hosts, and enjoy comfortable and elegantly furnished guest lounges, shady vine clad verandas, stone-walled terraces and beautiful mature gardens. A choice of dining options include a light supper platter, a barbeque option, a Claremont 3-course table d’hote menu or exclusive private chef dining with garden-fresh vegetables, organic fruit from Claremont’s orchard or other local produce, complimented by fine Waipara wines.
The spacious Claremont luxury suite and three guest bedrooms are each individually themed with sumptuous fabrics, fine antiques and luxurious bathrooms. Also available is the Owners’ Retreat, a separate beautifully appointed and secluded 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom self-contained villa, that is located in the heart of the Estate. The Claremont Cottage, a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom, self-contained cottage provides separate child-friendly family accommodation close to the lodge.
Claremont is a convenient hub from which to explore both Christchurch and Canterbury. It is a 2,400 acre working farm with 10 kms of direct river frontage. There are many on-site walking options. Complimentary to guests staying three nights or more is Claremont’s acclaimed Land Rover 4WD safari tour of the Estate to view 65 million year old “God’s Marbles” and the amazing Bishops Head natural rock sculpture. The many nearby Waipara wineries offer wine tasting, cafes and tours. There is whale watching or swimming with dolphins at Kaikoura. Also available are guided trout and salmon fishing, hiking, horse trekking and golf. Hanmer Springs Thermal pools and Spa and the many Christchurch City attractions are also all within easy reach.
