Walking

Separated from the rest of the world for millions of years, New Zealand retained ancient forests and unique birds. Couple this to the most spectacular scenery on earth, and it is time to get off the beaten track...

Walking

The 'eight great walks', the Milford Track and others, are the famous multi-day guided walks that are familiar to most. Yet it is the day walks and less that are spread throughout the National Parks and protected lands that provide the majority of the special experiences for our visitors. Most often it is the degree of local knowledge that provides for skilled but low key guided trips that makes the day exceptional. Many of the Lodges provide expert advice for 4WD and walking experiences into remote but benign (no snakes!) wilderness. Prehistoric temperate rainforests with 1,000 year old trees, hidden lakes in mountain tussock country, wild sea coasts and vivid memories, and the best of creature comforts after a day of adventures.

The New Zealand Lodge Association is more than just the quality of the accommodation. The people who are your hosts have also taken the trouble to provide you with advice as to the best ways to learn about and explore our special environments
